Which process should you automate first?

A simple way for business owners to pick a first AI or automation project that saves real time without putting customers at risk.

Most businesses don’t need “an AI strategy” to get started. They need one process that eats hours every week and can be handed to a reliable, well-tested workflow.

Here is the quick test we use with clients.

1. List the repetitive work

Spend a week noting every task your team does more than five times. Typical examples:

  • Answering the same questions on WhatsApp or email
  • Copying details from forms or invoices into a spreadsheet
  • Sending follow-up messages to new leads
  • Creating weekly reports by hand

2. Score each task

Give each task a score from 1 to 5 on three questions:

  1. Volume: how often does it happen?
  2. Rules: could you explain it to a new hire in one page?
  3. Risk: how bad is a mistake? (Low risk scores higher.)

The highest total is usually your best first automation.

3. Keep a human in the loop

Good automation knows when to stop and ask. Every workflow we build has a clear hand-over point where a person takes over, and a log you can check.

4. Measure before and after

Write down how long the task takes today. After launch, compare. That number tells you whether to automate the next process.
